J. S. Bach the Teacher: the pleasures and challenges of learning the second volume of The Well-Tempered Clavier

An in-depth discussion of selected preludes and fugues from Bach's WTC 2, with emphasis on Bach's contrapuntal and rhetorical style in the 1740s and the many physical issues that arise from his keyboard writing. A reading knowledge of music is not necessary. There will be a lot of demonstration and show-and-tell. This course grows out of the popular "Bach at Noon" series. It will provide a good learning experience for people familiar with Bach's oeuvre as well as for those who are curious to learn more about it.

Instructor: Neely Bruce
