Rhythms and Life Cycles of the Seasons
Join us to uncover and explain the natural phenomena that drive the subtle, fascinating shifts in nature from winter into springtime. In our first week we'll discuss some harbingers of spring, gaining a new appreciation for the hidden power and gentle beauty of the season's first arrivals. We'll then take a dip into some of our most unique wetlands—vernal pools. These temporary habitats are crucial breeding sites for frogs and salamanders. We’ll study the incredible journeys of the migratory birds passing through or returning to our area. We’ll discuss stopover habitats, the challenges of migration, and practical ways we can compassionately support these amazing travelers in our own backyards. We will encounter migrating birds, spring wildflowers, and more during a guided field trip to a local Portland wildlife sanctuary.
